The fight over Planned Parenthood reached a boiling point Tuesday on Capitol Hill when Cecile Richards, president of the organization, testified before Congress about how the group uses taxpayer dollars.
…Republican lawmakers focused their questioning on Planned Parenthood’s finances and how the organization spends its $528 million in annual taxpayer funding.
“Does Planned Parenthood really need federal subsidies? Does it need federal dollars?” asked [Jason] Chaffetz, a Republican from Utah. “As far as I can tell, this is an organization that doesn’t need federal subsidies.”
The Republicans questions Richards about her $590,928 salary in 2013 and her combined salary of 2.7 million from 2009 to 20013. They wondered about the 40 other employees who earned more than $200,000 a year, the $5 million spent on travel, some of which was first-class or charter. The stunning numbers went on and on.
