Some Beliefs About ‘Good Mothering’ Are Bad for Mental Health

When we speak of “good mothers” in church, we often hear stories of mothers’ sacrifices and frequent heartache as well as the great joy and eternal significance of mothers. These themes echo family research that highlights a paradox of parenting -- it is considered to be one of the most rewarding aspects of life while simultaneously being associated with increased stress, dissatisfaction, and even depression.

Official Statement on Mormon Missionaries Badly Injured in Car Accident in Sierra Leone

Each of the people in the mission van received injuries, some quite severe. Two of the missionaries have been transported by air ambulance to Ghana for more extensive care. Two are recovering in a hospital in Sierra Leone, and one has been released and is recovering well.
