Fall is a wonderful time to come to Temple Square and enjoy the beauty of the fall colors, as well as to listen to beautiful music.  October brings an exciting month of concerts on Temple Square with four scheduled for the Assembly Hall and three in the Tabernacle.  All events are open to ages eight and older and are free.

Friday, October 10 —Utah Premiere Brass, a British-style brass band, will perform in the Assembly Hall at 7:30 p.m.  Under the direction of Alan Boyer, the band will showcase a program of classical, spiritual, jazz, and Broadway music.  Mr. Boyer, a native of England, has played with and conducted many of the United Kingdom ‘s leading brass bands.

Saturday, October 11 —The Utah All-State Choir, comprised of outstanding high school singers from throughout the state, will present a program in the Tabernacle at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Dr. Brady Allred, director of choral activities at the University of Utah .  This concert is the Grand Festival concert sponsored by the Utah Music Educators Association (UMEA).  The Utah State University Chamber Choir will also be featured at this event.  Tickets are required.  Call 801-570-0080 or visit www.lds.org/events for free tickets.

Friday and Saturday, October 17-18 —The Orchestra at Temple Square will present fall concerts in the Tabernacle, under the direction of conductor Igor Gruppman.  The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and will feature horn soloist Kevin Rivard from the San Francisco Opera Company.  Tickets are required.  For free tickets, call 801-570-0080 or visit www.lds.org/events .

Saturday, October 18 —The Susan Duehlmeier and Bonnie Gritton Piano Duo will perform in concert in the Assembly Hall at 7:30 p.m.  Their program will include music written for movies, classical music used in movies, and music written for the theater.  Pieces include Percy Grainger’s arrangement of Addinsell’s The Warsaw Concerto , DeFalla’s Ritual Fire Dance, Gershwin’s Embraceable You, and many other selections.

Friday, October 24 —The Orchestra of Sandy, conducted by Joel Rosenberg, will play a program featuring music by Johannes Brahms, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the Assembly Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, October 25 —Pianist William Darger will premiere David Zabriskie’s Toccata during a concert in the Assembly Hall at 7:30 p.m.  Other piano selections will include works by Rachmaninoff, Bach, Mozart, and Brahms.  Mr. Darger, originally from Salt Lake City, now resides in New York .

In addition , 30-minute organ recitals are held in the Tabernacle weekdays and Saturdays at 12:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

Also, Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsals are open to the public in the Tabernacle on Thursday evenings at 8:00 p.m., as is “Music and the Spoken Word” on Sundays featuring the Mormon Tabernacle Choir when doors open at 8 a.m. and close at 9:15 a.m. for the 9:30 a.m. 30-minute broadcast.
