As you may have known and participated in, the Discovery Channel — a popular cable television network — recently held a nationwide vote, in conjunction with America Online, to find out who is the greatest American is of all time. With more than 500,000 votes and many nominees, the top 100 have been chosen.  The Prophet Joseph Smith is among the nominees.

Other nominees span the alphabet from A (Muhammad Ali) to Y (Chuck Yeager), and include such notables as Alexander Graham Bell and Albert Einstein.

Now that the nominees have been selected, the Discovery Channel and AOL are doing more intensive research into the lives of the nominees in order to present them during a television special.  “Greatest American” will be shown Sunday, June 5, at 8 p.m. Eastern time on the Discovery Channel.

During that program, viewers will have the opportunity to vote for their choice as Greatest American.  Votes will be taken over the internet, by telephone, or with SMS.

Mark your calendar and vote for your favorite American on June 5th.  This show will introduce the Prophet Joseph to thousands of viewers.  His placement on the roster of Greatest Americans may tempt viewers to learn for themselves why Joseph Smith made a difference in the world.
