A wide range of artistic events are scheduled for Temple Square and other locations during the month of July.
The concerts, a cultural gift to the community by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are free and open to the public.
Saturday, July 3-The popular Utah National Guard 23 rd Army Band will present a patriotic concert in the Tabernacle at 7:30 p.m. Under the direction of CW2 Jay M. Cottam, the band will provide an evening of stirring patriotic and Americana music. The program will include the William Tell Overture by Rossini, Semper Fidelis by John Philip Sousa, Armed Forces Medley, Liberty Fanfare, and Lee Greenwood’s God Bless America. Saturday July 10-A free outdoor summer youth concert will be held at This is the Place Heritage Park at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. The concert will feature popular artists, Peter Breinholt, Cori Connors, Jon Schmidt, Nancy Hanson, and Russ Dixon. Pre-show starts at 7:00 p.m., with the actual concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. Old Deseret Village will be open free-of-charge to concert goers from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Free parking will be available at the park or at the LDS Institute of Religion on the University of Utah campus with free shuttle service throughout the evening, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on. Thursday, July 15-Temple Square Performances presents Opera by Children in the Conference Center Theater at 6:00 p.m. This special children’s event features four original opera productions written and performed by elementary-age students, as taught through Utah Festival Opera Company’s educational outreach program. Saturday and Sunday, July 17-18-Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s 75th Anniversary Gala Concert, featuring the world-renown Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Choir’s weekly radio and TV broadcast, Music and the Spoken Word, will take place in the Conference Center on July 17 at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, July 18, the 75th anniversary broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word, followed by a mini-concert, will be held in the Conference Center at 9:30 a.m. Tickets are required for both events. Tuesday and Wednesday, July 20-21-I Went on My Way Rejoicing, a musical drama on the life story of former LDS president, Wilford Woodruff, will be presented in the Conference Center Theater at 7:30 p.m. Many of his descendants will be among the cast of this musical presentation. Friday, July 23-Inspirational singer, Jenny Phillips, will present music from her fourth album, Journey Toward Zion, in the Bountiful Regional Center at 7:30 p.m. A phenomenal 60-voice choir, as well as selected soloists and instrumentalists, will join Jenny for this unique program. Friday and Saturday, July 23-24– The Long Walk of Patience Loader, a historical drama adapted from the original journals of the Willie and Martin handcart companies, will be presented in the Conference Center Theater at 7:30 p.m. on July 23, and at 2:00 p.m. on July 24. Saturday, July 31-Temple Square Performances presents local pianist, Jenny Naylor Richards, in concert at the Assembly Hall on Temple Square at 7:30 p.m. A master’s degree graduate from Juilliard, Jenny was awarded the prestigious Helen Fay Prize for outstanding musicianship from the school. Jenny will perform works by Scarlatti, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff/Wilde, Liszt, and Robert Cundick. This concert is free and open to the public. Admission is limited to those eight years of age and older.
JULY 2004 “CONCERTS IN THE PARK”
The popular Concerts in the Park continues throughout July and August. Held at Brigham Young Historic Park at the southeast corner of State Street and 2 nd Avenue in Salt Lake City, the performances are free and do not require tickets. Tuesday concerts are family-oriented and Friday concerts are more youth-oriented, however, all ages are welcome.
The July park concerts begin at 8 p.m. Free parking is available at 59 East North Temple Street. Seating is limited, however attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. In the event of rain, call 801-240-0213 for venue changes; changes will also be posted at the park.

Tuesday, July 27– Easy Street Entertainers; performing everything from Dixieland to swing to jazz.
Friday, July 30-Nancy Hanson, talented folk singer, guitarist, and songwriter.
