COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – “Come Home to Kanesville,” the Winter Quarters musical performed since 2006, returns for its 2010 season on July 20.
“Kanesville” is told through the love interests of two couples who meet at the great camp of Zion. The storyline is a drama of families torn asunder set against the panorama of the mustering of the Mormon Battalion, the sustaining of Brigham Young and the inevitable call to the valley.
The production provides a unique perspective of those who marched faithfully forward, as well as those who remained behind. It calls out to the children of Kanesville everywhere, and simply invites them to “come home.”
Attend “Come Home to Kanesville” one night and the “Nauvoo Pageant” the next. The two productions are just seven hours’ driving time apart. See “Come Home to Kanesville” in the Historic Kanesville Tabernacle, where Brigham Young was sustained as the second president of the Church.
Just fifteen minutes west, across the “Muddy Mo,” is the site of Winter Quarters, where the story of the trek is told. Walk the hallow ground of the Pioneer Cemetery at Winter Quarters with the beautiful sculpture adjacent to the Winter Quarters Temple.
“Kanesville” will be presented July 20th to the 31st in the Historic Kanesville Tabernacle 222 E. Broadway, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Show times are Tuesdays through Fridays at 7pm, Saturdays at 4 pm and 7 pm. Admission is free, ages 8 and above.
