Another great year has passed for Meridian.  Can you believe that we have been online now for nearly 13 years?  Have any of you been reading Meridian for nearly this entire time?  Click here.

Look at Meridian’s accomplishments:

  1. We have published nearly 25,000 original feature articles (since the beginning)
  2. Our amazing writers continue to dazzle us with the best writing on the Web.
  3. Breaking news:  We are working behind the scenes with a wonderful friend in Buenos Aires to soon launch a Spanish version of Meridian.
  4. We have moved our headquarters (after 11 years in Washington, D.C.) to Alpine, Utah.
  5. As always, we have published another 46 Gospel Doctrine lessons (one of the most popular reads on Meridian).
  6. We have added some wonderful writers and we will soon be adding more.
  7. In the next few months we will be adding multiple platforms of Meridian in ways we think will make you very excited.
  8. We have the best LDS cartoonists, bringing you a new cartoon every day we publish.

As has always been the case, we need your support to be able to continue publishing and growing Meridian.  Just like NPR and a host of other sites, we come to you at this time of year with a request for your support once again.   The most frequent question we get from our readers is:  “How do you have any revenue from Meridian if you give it to us for free?”  That is an excellent question. Like a dairy farm, the demands are daily.  We publish Meridian five or six days a week and it does cost a lot of money to put up.  That’s why we need you so much.

cartoon_0002We’ve given our all again this past year; would you be willing to give a little back in return?

What is Meridian worth to you?

Is it worth the cost of two first-run movie tickets and a small popcorn for a year’s worth of daily Meridian? (In most theaters that would be about $22.00)

Are Meridian’s 2,000 original feature articles this past year and over 10,000 up-to-the-minute news links worth $25 to you?

Is a year of Meridian worth the cost of 2 gallons of milk, a nice loaf of bread, a pound of hamburger and a bag of potato chips? (Average cost would be $16.00)

What is Meridian worth to you?

Many of you responded so generously in the past-not only with checks, credit card donations and PayPal advances, but with kind notes and letters of encouragement.  Because so many of you agreed that a voluntary subscription idea every year was a good idea, we come to you again.  Won’t you give generously now to Meridian to keep us alive and online?

It takes so much to keep Meridian afloat.  Mostly it’s just sheer determination and sweat that keeps this daily-updated magazine alive.  The past three years of bad economy have taken their toll on us.  We are determined to not only stay afloat, we won’t to prosper in our publishing and bless as many lives as we can.

A people’s magazine, like Meridian, only exists because everybody helps.

We love to bring you big doses of information, inspiration, insight and fun each day, but it takes means to do it. Will you help us?

Let me assure you that every media outlet is feeling the pinch of these economic times. Print magazines are getting thinner. Many newspapers are swimming in red ink. We don’t change in what we deliver each day, except on the back end where there are longer hours and fewer staff.

Most of you tacked on post-it notes or wrote in the memo line of your check encouraging words and thoughts of gratitude. The most common one we received was “Keep up the good work!” Many of you said, “Come to us again, don’t wait until it’s too late.” “We love what you do.” ” Meridian is my home page and my uplift each morning.” “I love Meridian -don’t ever stop bringing it to us.” We literally received untold hundreds of notes of encouragement and enthusiasm last year.  THANK YOU!

We’ve worked these past twelve months and published 260 more issues of Meridian, and we intend to keep on doing it.

So now we are coming to you again.

If you didn’t give last year, could you donate this year?

If you did give last year, could you give again?

Is Meridian Magazine worth $25 to you?  Is it worth $20?  A small percentage of our readership responded this past year, but most of you who did respond said yes-Meridian IS worth a donation of $20 or more.

One of our loyal readers, John, just sent us this note:

“I just wanted to say thanks for a wonderful year of gospel doctrine articles from each of you and the other contributors, Breck England, John Tvedtnes, and Bruce Satterfield. I appreciate each of you sharing your wealth of knowledge to help us readers understand these important gospel principles better. I recognize the enormous amount of work that must go into preparing these lessons, with all the research, writing and editing to make them flow so well. Hope you all enjoy this special holiday season where we celebrate Him whose message you share so well.”

We received this note from Mary, a reader not of our faith:

“I hope it’s OK for me to share your website, even though I’m not LDS. I am a United Methodist and I was raised in a home with the same values that I see are taught and discussed in Meridian. I don’t know what has happened to our world that it seems we have lost our way. I feel renewed by what I have read and meditated on here. I will come back daily. Thanks for sharing with me.

I hope I can reflect Christ’s love in my life”.

It’s readers like John and Mary who really keep us going.

Would you be willing to help us continue to bring you Meridian by giving generously this year?
