Over 70,000 “Voices for Virtue” Facebook fans have come together to make February “Gold Ribbon Month.” These youth ages 12-29, have as their mission: “Young people strengthening ourselves in virtuous living by connecting through social networking.”
Voices For Virtue has a month full of activities and speakers that will be available to youth and young adults via Facebook. Speakers include General Young Women President of the LDS Church Elaine S. Dalton, Dr. Thomas Holman, John Hilton III, and Brad Wilcox.
Merrick, age 20, says “We’re so excited about being able to be face to face with these guys in a live Facebook webcast. To think anywhere in the world we can post our personal question on Facebook to President Dalton or Brad Wilcox and hear their responses live … I can hardly wait!”

This royal army of youth fight not with “sword and shield” but with “cell phones and tweets” by connecting on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, texting, live Facebook webcasts, and other social media. Their enemy is immorality, particularly pornography.
Voices for Virtue is a non-profit group that shares skills and ideas of how to prevent immorality and pornography from becoming a problem. They attempt to connect with youths who may already have a problem by providing them with resources.
Sister Elaine S. Dalton at a CES fireside on September 13, 2009 said “I truly believe that one virtuous young woman or young man, led by the Spirit, can change the world.” Those words were the inspiration for Ashley, age 19, to meet with two of her young adult friends, Jamee and Jessie, in their parents’ home in Taylorsville, Utah to form Voices For Virtue. They hoped that youth and young adults from around the world would have a place to rally together, and to respond to Sister Dalton’s call for a “return to virtue”. Seventeen year old Seanna says, “I’ve been a Voices For Virtue volunteer for over a year…we’ve always been told we were a special generation and we had a special mission, but we never knew what to do or how to organize … Voices For Virtue gives us a way to express our beliefs.”
Sister Ardeth Kapp former Young Women’s President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serves on the Upward Reach Board that manages the Voices For Virtue campaign. Sister Kapp described Voices For Virtue by saying “This cause is just, the challenge is real, the help is available and the resource for help is as close as your finger tips. Join this group of valued friends and make a difference now and forever.”
