This Week in the Blogs

I received an e-mail about this news article and blog in the Colorado Springs Gazette. It talks about how Mormon Church leaders are among the few who work for their church for free. A couple of very interesting stories are told in the article, and if you click on the link to the writer’s blog, you’ll find more information there, including quotes from church leaders in Colorado Springs and scriptural references. Check out the story and blog here.
This blogger has taken some interesting facts from the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religious & Public Life report on Mormonism and listed them in his blog. Some of the things here, like Mormons are more likely to be married, might not seem like something we all don’t already know, but several of the facts he lists are not well-known about Mormons. For example, more education leads to stronger belief among Mormons. This is the opposite of the general population of the U.S. For more fun facts about Mormons, check out this blog.
This next blog is my inspiration for the week. I always try to find at least one blog that will teach me an important lesson or make me think about something in a different way. The blog I found is about hating sins, but loving the sinners. The blogger talks about how this idea isn’t doctrinal, but it serves as a reminder of simple Christian practices. Check out this uplifting blog here.
I found some very cool Web sites that talk about Mormons being dancing fools on this blog. According to a site called Book Notes and Quotes (linked from this blog), Mormons have already won 'So You Think You Can Dance' and 'Dancing With the Stars,' and two of the front runners on ABC's hit 'Dance War,' are also Mormon. “Dance is part of our culture,” says Lee Wakefield, chair of Brigham Young University's dance department. “Mormons danced when they crossed the plains to Utah, and one of the first buildings they built was a dance hall.” Another site (linked from this blog), contains quotes from several church leaders, including Brigham Young, about why Mormons are the “dancingest denomination.” Check them out!
