Eric Huntsman is an associate professor of ancient scripture at Brigham Young University, where he is also affiliated with the programs of Classical Studies and Ancient Near Eastern Studies. A graduate from BYU in classical Greek and Latin, he received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in ancient history. He joined the faculty of BYU in 1994, where he taught Classics for nine years before transferring to Religious Education. The author of Good Tidings of Great Joy: An Advent Celebration of the Savior’s Birth and God So Loved the World: the Final Days of the Savior’s Life, he was also one of the co-authors of Jesus Christ and the World of the New Testament. In addition, he hosts Mormon Identities, a podcast on the Mormon Channel.
Eric served as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok mission and as a bishop in Provo, Utah. An ordinance worker in the Provo Temple and a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, he is currently on leave from those callings as he and his family fill a one-year assignment at the BYU Jerusalem Center. He and his wife Elaine are the parents of two children.
