The Doctrine and Covenants is an invitation to all people everywhere to come unto Christ. In the revelations of this book "one hears the tender but firm voice of the Lord Jesus Christ," inviting all to come unto Him "preparatory to his second coming."
The purpose of the Atonement of our Savior is to bring us back to a state of oneness with our Father and His Beloved Son. Faith in Him requires a steadfast and humble recognition of His tender love for us. He knows our weakness and asks only that we follow Him and remain "faithful over a few things."
Section 88 is named the "Olive Leaf." To "extend the olive branch" means to seek for or offer peace. Over the centuries the olive tree has become a symbol of peace.
Doctrine and Covenants 89 contains helpful instructions for the latter-day use of our bodies. This fascinating section may be helpfully analyzed according to the Lord's own description. He called it a "principle with a promise."
