An estimated 65 million people have been displaced from their homes due to conflict and famine. Half of these refugees are children.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has produced a new video, “Refuge from the Storm,” to encourage people to get involved in assisting refugees in their communities.

“The Savior knows how it feels to be a refugee — He was one,” said Elder Patrick Kearon of the Seventy in the April 2016 general conference. Excerpts of his talk are included in the video.

In October of 2015, the First Presidency issued a letter to all members of the Church around the world encouraging them to provide assistance to refugees in all parts of the world.

Sister Linda K. Burton, general president of the Relief Society, first discussed the Church’s “I Was a Stranger” relief effort during general conference last spring. “This is an opportunity to serve one-on-one, in families, and by organization to offer friendship, mentoring, and other Christlike service and is one of many ways sisters can serve,” said Sister Burton.
