Various studies have shown that women misidentify the father of their child up to 30% of the time, depending on the demographics of the sample. Overall in society, the rate is about 10%. These pregnancies happen during affairs or when a woman gets pregnant and wants to find a (better) man to help raise her kid and then quickly becomes intimate with the new guy to make him believe that the baby is his. In both cases, the woman wants to provide the best living situation for herself and the child. Perhaps paternity tests should be automatically administered in the hospital in order to verify paternity for medical purposes for the child and to ensure that a may doesn't have to pay child support on a child that isn't his should a divorce take place.
