This article is about Oregon, but what happens in Oregon will affect us all.  If you live in Oregon, please step up and help.  If you have friends in Oregon, please forward this urgent article to them.

Traditional marriage between a man and a woman, upheld by a 57% to 43% margin and placed in the Oregon constitution in 2004, is about to be nullified by Oregon’s ultra-liberal governor and Democrat-controlled legislature.

We have until September 25th to submit 57,179 valid signatures to Oregon’s Secretary of State to place this bill on the November 2008 General Election ballot so the citizens can vote.

As of today, September 13th, we are 20,000 signatures short.

If we fail to submit sufficient signatures, both this bill and a bill to grant special rights, privileges and protections to homosexuals, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendereds and the gender confused, will become law on January 1, 2008

The ripple effect throughout the nation of either our success or failure, will be enormous.

Background

In 2004, Oregonians voted to amend the Oregon Constitution to state that marriage was only between a man and a woman in response to the unlawful extension of marriage licenses to “same-sex partners’ by the Multnomah County Commissioners.

On May 9th this year, the governor of Oregon signed House Bill 2007, which provides all the benefits of marriage in Oregon law to men and women who wish to live in a homosexual or lesbian relationship; hence, circumventing the will of the people, the Oregon constitution, and our nation’s traditional moral and legal standards.  In so doing, the legislature and the governor created another form of marriage called ‘domestic partnerships,’ in defiance of the will of the people. This petition seeks to place HB 2007 on the November 4, 2008 ballot on which voter eligible Oregonians may vote to either allow HB 2007 or make it null and void

On the same day, the governor signed Senate Bill 2 (SB2) which provides special rights, privileges and protections to homosexuals, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders, and those who have ‘gender identity’ issues. This impacts hiring, the workplace, and education, by the threat of legal action.

Sex ed?  Your child must voice agreement that homosexual coupling is just as moral, right and attractive as heterosexual marriage.

Employer Rights? If your employee decides to express him or herself in an inappropriate manner according to company guidelines and standards,  you could be sued if you suggest the he/she change their behavior.

Senate Bill 2 means that no one will be able to express an opposing opinion relating to someone’s sexual preference in the workplace, school, or any public place, without fear of termination, mandatory gender counseling, reprimand, or job advancement discrimination.

The Ripple Effect

The ripple effect throughout the nation of either our success or failure, will be enormous.

Failure to obtain the needed signatures will telegraph every gay and lesbian organization in the nation that:

  • Family-centered people will not stand and fight for the very institutions that are fundamental to their faith.
  • Liberals, secularists, and homosexuals will.
  • Those who want to change the definition of marriage and morality across the nation only need to persevere.
