The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will host the world premier of “A Cloud of Witnesses,” an original composition by the choir’s Music Director Mack Wilberg during Easter concerts on Good Friday, April 14, and Saturday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. The work “is inspired by accounts of witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” according to a news release.
The original text for the work was written by Wilberg’s longtime collaborator, David Warner, and is based on scriptural references found in the King James Version of the Bible.
In addition to Wilberg’s original, the Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Christ on the Mount of Olives,” which, according to a press release, was “Beethoven’s first major work on a religious subject and his only oratorio. The libretto by Franz Xaver Huber treats the emotional agony of Jesus Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane and his triumph over death.”
