On April 11-14, 2013, historic Nauvoo, Illinois, will welcome guests on a journey through time to trace their roots for two full days of family history research at a Genealogy Retreat sponsored by the Nauvoo Family Inn and Suites and the LDS Family Search Center. This retreat is for individuals who are just getting started with family history research and those who have already delved into their family histories.
Participants attending the Nauvoo Genealogy Retreat will work in a quiet environment without the hustle and bustle of people and traffic. They will receive instruction and helpful resources as they work in the new state-of-the-art Family Search Center. Instructional classes, meals already prepared, time to delve into ancestor research, and visits to historic sites will create a memorable weekend.
Sleuthing into the past will uncover details about forebears who become more than a name on a page or a cemetery tombstone. Participants may learn about places and times in which their ancestors lived and died. They may discover strengths and struggles, likes and dislikes-and see how their ancestors’ traits and personalities trickled down to their descendants. By learning about our ancestors, we unlock clues to understanding ourselves.
Attendees at the Genealogy Retreat should bring a laptop computer, personal genealogy information, and possible research goals for tracking down an individual or family. What discoveries from this retreat might go home in a suitcase or on a flash drive?
Those attending the three-night, two-day retreat will receive a special $165 package/person, which includes:
- Double occupancy in a double queen room for three nights
- Welcome meeting, hors d’ oeuvres, speaker Thursday night
- Breakfast, lunch, dinner on Friday and Saturday
- Speakers/classes on Friday and Saturday
- Saturday evening “Show and Tell Farewell”
Pricing and schedules will be modified to meet individual needs if participants attend only one day or do not eat in the restaurant. Classes held in the Nauvoo Family Search Center are free. To register for the Nauvoo Genealogy Retreat, call 800-416-4470 and ask for Rebecca Hartley. To obtain more information about Nauvoo, visit beautifulnauvoo.com and historicnauvoo.net.
