Modern revelation restores plain and precious portions of the book of Genesis including many details about the Prophet Enoch and his city of Zion. The great miracles that in our day are considered by many in the world to be only figurative can now be seen in their true context. Although we do not yet know how the city of Enoch was translated and soon will return to the earth, we are assured of the truth of this and other interconnected miracles in Genesis by both ancient and modern prophets.
Nephi especially extolled the contents of the sealed portion of the Book of Mormon where “all things shall be revealed.” In this illustration the plates, the Liahona, the breastplate, the Urim and Thummim, and the sword of Laban are depicted.
“All Things Shall Be Revealed”
In Nephi’s commentary on Isaiah’s prophesies of the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, again and again he extols what is contained in the sealed portion of this book. The restoration of all things beginning with the “unsealed” portion of these latter-day scriptures that restore plain and precious parts of the Bible will eventually result in the revelation of “all things” from the “sealed book.”
“All things shall be revealed unto the children of men which ever have been among the children of men, and which ever will be even unto the end of the earth.”(2 Nephi 27:11)
It is interesting that four times in this chapter Nephi tells of the sealed book’s superlative revelations rather than just emphasizing as Isaiah does the unsealed portion’s wonderful power as the “most correct book on earth” that shall allow the “blind [to] see out of obscurity and out of darkness.” (verse 29)
“And behold the book shall be sealed; and in the book shall be a revelation from God, from the beginning of the world to the ending thereof.” (verse 7)
“The revelation which was sealed shall be kept in the book until the own due time of the Lord, that they may come forth; for behold, they reveal all things from the foundation of the world unto the end thereof.” (verse 10)
“Then shalt thou seal up the book again, and hide it up unto me, that I may preserve the words which thou hast not read, until I shall see fit in mine own wisdom to reveal all things unto the children of men.” (verse 22)
How about that as an endorsement on the dust cover of a book? “Reveal all things!” Are there any volumes like that in any earthly library?
Although we have not yet received the sealed portion of that “book of books,” modern revelation, especially the Pearl of Great Price and the Joseph Smith translation of the Bible, has already provided a great restoration of the first book of the Bible, the book of Genesis. It is in the context of this first book of Moses that the history of Enoch originally was included.
Campfire Stories Passed on as Oral Traditions?
Genesis is now considered by many, even some Latter-Day Saints, as “some oral traditions [that] passed down for seven or eight centuries before coming to written form. In fact, each century of transmission must have involved changes, since oral traditions have never been remotely intended to preserve precise data.”
In the restored Book of Moses we learn that Moses in actual fact received the book of Genesis as a marvelous vision “when Moses was caught up into an exceedingly high mountain” and the Lord showed him “the workmanship of [His] hands.” (Moses 1:1, 4) Moses “beheld the earth, yea, even all of it … discerning it by the Spirit of God…. And he beheld also the inhabitants thereof, and there was not a soul which he beheld not; and he discerned them by the Spirit of God.” (Moses 1:27, 28) Now that is a vision!
Even though many plain and precious, plain to be understood parts were later removed from Genesis, Moses recorded this supernal vision himself aided no doubt by the spiritual quickening that allowed him to experience and record the vision. No “oral traditions” were involved. Hence, another straw man argument that the disbelievers promote against Genesis falls before the light of revelation.
In fact, it is amazing to see the multiple levels of revelations in the Book of Moses. Joseph Smith viewed the vision given to Moses, who viewed visions given to Enoch. Visions within visions!
In a Day when “Miracles are Done Away”
Moroni warns us of the trap of declaring miracles to be only figurative when we cannot yet reconcile them with modern scientific research. He speaks of the day when the Book of Mormon shall come forth.
“It shall come in a day when it shall be said that miracles are done away … And now, if ye have imagined up unto yourselves a god who doth vary, and in whom there is shadow of changing, then have ye imagined up unto yourselves a god who is not a God of miracles. But behold, I will show unto you a God of miracles, even the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and it is that same God who created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are. Behold, he created Adam, and by Adam came the fall of man. And because of the fall of man came Jesus Christ, even the Father and the Son; and because of Jesus Christ came the redemption of man.” (Mormon 8:26, 9:10-12)
Enoch’s Miracle-Filled History
The Lord through Enoch performed truly great miracles. It requires faith to believe in their historical reality and yet future fulfillment. Instead of just a few fragments about Enoch that remain in our modern book of Genesis, the Book of Moses restores a great deal of his history.
The imaginary city of Stratos was depicted in this Star Trek episode. The energy that would be required to keep a small city in a suspended state like this would be off the scale in energy requirements. Just consider the energy needed to orbit the payload of a Space Shuttle and then think of the logistics of translating the city of Enoch-a big, big miracle!
We do not know the mechanisms the Lord used in the translation of the city of Enoch. Could something like this depiction of a futuristic space station and space ships have been part of the process?
Ordained to the priesthood by Adam at the young age of twenty-five, the patriarch Enoch established the first city of Zion.
After three hundred and sixty five years of preparation, “Zion, in process of time, was taken up into heaven.” (Moses 7:21)
That translation of millions of people, perhaps including the whole city’s structure and foundation, and their transportation to some other place is not a miracle that can be rationalized as being caused by natural phenomena. We are assured that in our day another Zion, the New Jerusalem, will be established and that Enoch’s city will return and join the inhabitants of this modern Zion.
“Then shall thou and all thy city meet them there … And there shall be mine abode, and it shall be Zion, which shall come forth out of all the creations which I have made; and for the space of a thousand years the earth shall rest.” (Moses 7:63-64)
The Prophet Joseph Smith believed in and witnessed in vision both ancient and latter-day miracles.
Joseph Smith: Literal Gathering and Restoration
Joseph Smith stated in the tenth article of faith:
“We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.”
The return of Enoch’s city of Zion is a key part of these events.
If we believe in the return of the city of Enoch subsequent to the great gathering of Israel and the return of the ten tribes, should we not also believe in the city of Enoch’s ancient miraculous ascension? If we believe in a paradisiacal period during the Millennium after the return of Enoch’s city to unite with the Zion of the New Jerusalem, should we not also believe in a paradisiacal period after the creation that preceded the fall in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve that is necessary for the atonement to occur?
Do we believe in the longevity of the pre-Flood patriarchs, essential to explain the history of Enoch who lived 430 years before his translation? Do we believe that Adam lived 930 years after the fall (999 years from his birth) and three years before his death blessed his righteous posterity in the valley of Adam-ondi-Ahman, in the US state of Missouri? (D&C 116:1, 107:53)
And if we believe in the city of Enoch’s translation and its return, then, despite unanswered questions about how these events scientifically might have occurred, shouldn’t we also believe in a world-wide Great Flood and later the confusion of languages at the tower of Babel? Because these huge miracles are intricately woven together in Genesis and testified of in the same modern revelations, if you believe in the ascension of the city of Enoch, a huge miracle, then on what basis should we abandon belief in the Great Flood and the tower of Babel, also huge miracles attested to by the same scriptures restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith?
In the Book of Moses, the Lord highlights the “worlds without number” that He has created. The analysis of the Kepler spacecraft’s recent observations predicts that 8.8 billion star systems in our galaxy alone have planets suitable for life. In light of these revelations and discoveries would we be surprised someday to learn that the creation and placing various forms of life on earth, the preservation of sufficient animal life during the Flood to repopulate the earth, and ongoing changes in life on earth might involve some of those worlds without number? Evidently, the city of Enoch and Melchizedek’s city of Salem were transported to other locations outside of the earth and cannot be explained by a geography limited to this planet alone.
Believe in the True and Living God, a God of Miracles!
Once again, the powerful words of Moroni regarding miracles ought to be our guide. Certainly we believe in a God who uses natural law in His great works, but our current lack of understanding of His methods or abilities should not lessen our belief in His genuine, literal miracles such as the translation and return of the city of Enoch.
“And if there were miracles wrought then, why has God ceased to be a God of miracles and yet be an unchangeable Being? And behold, I say unto you he changeth not; if so he would cease to be God; and he ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles.” (Mormon 9:19)

There are several clues as to where the “all things” revelations in the sealed portion may have come from as they were included in the Book of Mormon plates.
(1)The Lord’s revelation in 3 Nephi:
“And he did expound all things, even from the beginning until the time that he should come in his glory-yea, even all things which should come upon the face of the earth, even until the elements should melt with fervent heat, and the earth should be wrapt together as a scroll, and the heavens and the earth should pass away; … And these things have I written, which are a lesser part of the things which he taught the people; and I have written them to the intent that they may be brought again unto this people, from the Gentiles, according to the words which Jesus hath spoken. And when they shall have received this, which is expedient that they should have first, to try their faith, and if it shall so be that they shall believe these things then shall the greater things be made manifest unto them. And if it so be that they will not believe these things, then shall the greater things be withheld from them, unto their condemnation. Behold, I was about to write them, all which were engraven upon the plates of Nephi, but the Lord forbade it, saying: I will try the faith of my people.” (3 Nephi 26:3, 8-11)
(2)The Lord’s revelation to the Brother of Jared:
“For behold, the language which ye shall write I have confounded; wherefore I will cause in my own due time that these stones shall magnify to the eyes of men these things which ye shall write. And when the Lord had said these words, he showed unto the brother of Jared all the inhabitants of the earth which had been, and also all that would be; and he withheld them not from his sight, even unto the ends of the earth.
For he had said unto him in times before, that if he would believe in him that he could show unto him all things-it should be shown unto him; therefore the Lord could not withhold anything from him, for he knew that the Lord could show him all things. And the Lord said unto him: Write these things and seal them up; and I will show them in mine own due time unto the children of men. And it came to pass that the Lord commanded him that he should seal up the two stones which he had received, and show them not, until the Lord should show them unto the children of men. (Ether 3:24-28)
(3)The Lord’s revelation to Nephi in his vision of the tree of life and vision of John the Revelator:
“And behold, the things which this apostle of the Lamb shall write are many things which thou hast seen; and behold, the remainder shalt thou see. But the things which thou shalt see hereafter thou shalt not write; for the Lord God hath ordained the apostle of the Lamb of God that he should write them. And also others who have been, to them hath he shown all things, and they have written them; and they are sealed up to come forth in their purity, according to the truth which is in the Lamb, in the own due time of the Lord, unto the house of Israel.” (1 Nephi 14:25-26)
In modern revelation given to the Prophet Joseph Smith, the Lord also describes the future revelations when He will reveal all things.
“Yea, verily I say unto you, in that day when the Lord shall come, he shall reveal all things-Things which have passed, and hidden things which no man knew, things of the earth, by which it was made, and the purpose and the end thereof-Things most precious, things that are above, and things that are beneath, things that are in the earth, and upon the earth, and in heaven.” (D&C 101:32-34)
Just because we are assured that the Lord will reveal these things in that great day, which are also to come forth from the sealed portion of the Book of Mormon, we should not use that as an excuse to not strive to understand both true principles of revealed religion and true principles of science. The high percentage of active latter-day saints who are scientists and engineers may be an evidence of this positive effort.
The Lord admonished us to be actively engaged in pursuing knowledge and wisdom. I believe that we should not shy away from being informed and conversant about difficult questions in science and religion. In fact, I believe that if we do simply relegate these questions to the Lord to reveal in that great day, our own testimonies or those of loved ones could be weakened or lost. Particularly, the atheistic “scientific” view is vigorously promoted in our education system and in society in general. There are times when a powerful basic testimony is the appropriate response in a science and religion discussion and there are also times for the kind of debate with testimony, scriptures and scientific facts and logic that is described between Korihor and Alma in Alma chapter 30.
Whatever we do, we must cling to the iron rod of the scriptures and the words of the modern prophets.
“Behold, he saw other multitudes pressing forward; and they came and caught hold of the end of the rod of iron; and they did press their way forward, continually holding fast to the rod of iron, until they came forth and fell down and partook of the fruit of the tree.” (1 Nephi 8:30) [emphasis added]
Book of Mormon Introduction, 2013 electronic edition.
“Concerning this record the Prophet Joseph Smith said: I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.'”
Also very interesting in these words of Nephi and Isaiah in Second Nephi chapter 27 is this description of those who deny the creative works and the superior understanding of God.
“And wo unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord! And their works are in the dark; and they say: Who seeth us, and who knoweth us? And they also say: Surely, your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay. But behold, I will show unto them, saith the Lord of Hosts, that I know all their works. For shall the work say of him that made it, he made me not? Or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, he had no understanding?” (2 Nephi 27:27) [emphasis added]
“Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us? Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?” (Isaiah 29:15-16)
William T. Miller, “The Book of Genesis: Question by Question,” 2006, p. 5, 9.
“The stories as we have them have built the culture and identity of Judaism and Christianity, and continue to do so today. In that light the Genesis accounts, no matter how complex a blend of fact and fiction, or irony and artistry, teach lessons far beyond the provable details of the lives of a few hundred or a few thousands individuals.”
“If the answers in the book seem counterproductive or untraditional at first, readers should mull over them for a week or two. The study of Scripture is very rewarding, but the first hearing of modern analyses can be troubling at times.”
Just as it would be incomprehensible to imagine latter-day saints taking up a view arguing for infant baptism in light of the restoration of the words of the prophet Mormon in Moroni chapter 7, it would be equally unusual in my mind to see latter-day saints join with others who argue that the Book of Genesis consisted of stories that were passed down by oral traditions for centuries and only later were finally written down. Without the miraculous restoration of the Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price, I can understand how others might believe as Mr. Miller does in this book. But I would not give that same benefit of the doubt to latter-day saints who should know the Pearl of Great Price.
“And after these plain and precious things were taken away it goeth forth unto all the nations of the Gentiles; and after it goeth forth unto all the nations of the Gentiles, yea, even across the many waters which thou hast seen with the Gentiles which have gone forth out of captivity, thou seest-because of the many plain and precious things which have been taken out of the book, which were plain unto the understanding of the children of men, according to the plainness which is in the Lamb of God-because of these things which are taken away out of the gospel of the Lamb, an exceedingly great many do stumble, yea, insomuch that Satan hath great power over them.

Besides the translation of Enoch’s city, other great miracles are described in the restored record of Enoch.
“And so great was the faith of Enoch that he led the people of God, and their enemies came to battle against them; and he spake the word of the Lord, and the earth trembled, and the mountains fled, even according to his command; and the rivers of water were turned out of their course; and the roar of the lions was heard out of the wilderness; and all nations feared greatly, so powerful was the word of Enoch, and so great was the power of the language which God had given him.” (Moses 7:13)

Subtitle: “Truth restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith sheds light on the ministry of a mighty biblical prophet.”
“Three thousand years before the birth of Christ, the peace in which the people of the Lord had been living was broken as fierce enemies moved against them. History does not record the reason for the hatred that drove the attacking army, but they seemed intent on exterminating these early Saints. The soldiers must have felt very confident as they marched in battle array toward the peaceful land. But instead of victory they would find an ignominious defeat, which came about in ways they could not have imagined.”
“The Lord revealed to Enoch that “then shalt thou and all thy city meet [the elect in the last days] there, and we will receive them into our bosom” (Moses 7:63). With the two Zions united, the Son of Man would come to dwell on the earth in righteousness for the space of a thousand years’ (Moses 7:65). Then the earth would rest. Enoch then saw the day of the righteous, the hour of their redemption, and received a fulness of joy’ (Moses 7:67).”
The reality of the longevity of the pre-Flood patriarchs is underlined by the revelation in the Doctrine and Covenants that lists their ordinations to the priesthood.
“The order of this priesthood was confirmed to be handed down from father to son, and rightly belongs to the literal descendants of the chosen seed, to whom the promises were made. This order was instituted in the days of Adam, and came down by lineage in the following manner:” (D&C 107:40-41)
“Seth, who was ordained by Adam at the age of sixty-nine years … Enos was ordained at the age of one hundred and thirty-four years and four months, by the hand of Adam. … [Cainan] was eighty-seven years old when he received his ordination. … Mahalaleel was four hundred and ninety-six years and seven days old when he was ordained by the hand of Adam, who also blessed him. Jared was two hundred years old when he was ordained under the hand of Adam, who also blessed him. Enoch was twenty-five years old when he was ordained under the hand of Adam; and he was sixty-five and Adam blessed him. And he saw the Lord, and he walked with him, and was before his face continually; and he walked with God three hundred and sixty-five years, making him four hundred and thirty years old when he was translated. Methuselah was one hundred years old when he was ordained under the hand of Adam. Lamech was thirty-two years old when he was ordained under the hand of Seth. Noah was ten years old when he was ordained under the hand of Methuselah.” (D&C 107:42-52)
Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Volume 7, pages 285-286,
“It is no more difficult to transfer the Ten Tribes from this earth to another planet, than it is to take the city of Enoch from this earth, or bring Adam and Eve from another planet.”
The Way to Perfection, 1940 Joseph F. Smith,
“The Ten Tribes were taken by force out of the land the Lord gave them. Many of them mixed with the peoples among whom they were scattered. A large portion, however, departed in one body to the north, and disappeared from the rest of the world……..that they will return in a body, must be believed, else how shall the scriptures be fulfilled? There are too many prophecies concerning them and their return in a body to ignore the fact.”
Joseph Fielding Smith, “Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith,” 1936, page 93.
“According to the scripture, the gathering of the elect of the Lord out of every nation on earth, and bringing them to the place of the Lord of Hosts, when the city of righteousness shall be built, and where the people shall be of one mind, … We want all honest men to have a chance to gather and build up a city of righteousness, where even upon the bells of the horses shall be written Holiness to the Lord.'”
Joseph Smith wrote in the notes that became the Joseph Smith translation that Adam lived 999 years. The final version, however, was kept at 930 years. Enoch’s life before his translation was corrected by Joseph Smith to be 430 years instead of the 365 years noted in Genesis. 365 years was the time for the preparation of the city of Zion before it was translated.
If the Prophet Joseph was inspired to make these revisions, while retaining all of others, to the record of the amazingly long lives of the Biblical patriarchs, how can we doubt that they indeed did live that length of time? The pre-flood environment must have been conducive to much longer lives than we enjoy today, even with modern advances in sanitation, food and medicine.
See John Pratt’s excellent Meridian article written in 2003 entitled “Venus and the Beginning of Mortality” for a full discussion of Joseph Smith’s important insight into the key dates in the life of Adam.
“Could these dates really be correct? They would imply that Adam lived 999 years. Comparing that to the Genesis declaration that he lived 930 years could mean either that the dates are wrong, or that he lived 69 years in the Garden of Eden, and then 930 in mortality. Is there any evidence that he could have been in the garden that long?
“Two different religions provide support for that very idea. First, there is the following Hebrew tradition: “[Adam’s] appointed span was to be a thousand years, one of the Lord’s days.” It was felt that the longest time he could live would be 1,000 years, because God had warned him that “in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Gen. 2:17). The tradition goes on to say the he gave seventy years of his life to someone else, so that he lived 930 years. This teaching could be based on the belief that he did indeed live nearly 1,000 years.
“A modern confirmation comes from statements attributed to the Prophet Joseph Smith. Charles Walker recorded in his diary that he heard Wilford Woodruff state:
“Our Father [Adam] held [the Priesthood], and he was the oldest man that ever lived, according to the Prophet Joseph’s sayings.
He lived until he was 1,000 years old within a few months.
“Edward’s Stevenson’s journal is a second witness, which states that he learned personally from Joseph Smith that
Father Adam began his work and finished what was to be done in his time, living to be one thousand years old with the exception of about six months. Truly the Bible gives Methuselah the credit of being the oldest but the Prophet Joseph had it revealed to him otherwise. It is only an error of man in translating the record.”

“There are at least four references to 430-year periods in the scripture, and it turns out that 430 years is another Venus realignment period, when Hebrew holidays can occur on the same day of the Venus cycle. We are told that the Exodus occurred 430 years to the very day from the beginning of the sojourn of Israel (Ex. 12:40-41). What is the point being made about the accuracy of the very day? That may have to do with the fact that the Venus cycle is exactly 157,073 days, and knowing that, one could figure out the exact day of the Exodus. It was also 430 years from the birth of Peleg to the death of his father Eber (Genesis 11:17). Having the hint that the dates might be separated by a Venus cycle could be a clue to discovering the exact dates. Another example is the prophet Ezekiel was told by the Lord to lay on his side for a total of 430 days, which represented 430 years (Ezek. 4:5-6), which again could be a big chronological clue. Then, it turns out that the one chronological correction that the Prophet Joseph Smith made to Genesis was that Enoch did not live 365 years as stated in Gen. 5:23, but rather 430 years (Moses 8:1). What difference does that make? What does it matter if he lived 365 or 430 years? Perhaps it is important to know that Enoch was born and translated on a Venus cycle.”
John Pratt, “Astronomical Witness of the Great Flood,” Meridian Magazine, 2003,
“An important point to consider is that only a few of the patriarchs were born on a holy day on the Venus calendar, even though it appears at this time that all of them were born on Hebrew calendar holy days. There are indications of calendars for each of the planets (except Pluto), and many of those patriarchs may have been born on yet undiscovered holy days on other planetary calendars. Because it is only the Venus and Mercury calendars which are understood at the present time, clues will be sought to discover which patriarchs may have been born on holy days on the Venus calendar.
“The Prophet Joseph Smith provided a big clue in the case of Enoch. In his inspired translation of the Bible, he made the only change in the length of the life of any patriarch in Genesis when he corrected Enoch’s age from 365 years to be 430 years (Moses 8:1, compare Gen. 5:23). It turns out that 430 years is a period in which the Venus and Hebrew calendars may possibly have holy days mark both the beginning and end of the interval. Since such pairs of alignments are rare, if one can be found in the years indicated for Enoch, then it is evidence that we have found the correct dates.”
“Wherefore, I can stretch forth mine hands and hold all the creations which I have made; and mine eye can pierce them also, and among all the workmanship of mine hands there has not been so great wickedness as among thy brethren. But behold, their sins shall be upon the heads of their fathers; Satan shall be their father, and misery shall be their doom; and the whole heavens shall weep over them, even all the workmanship of mine hands; wherefore should not the heavens weep, seeing these shall suffer? But behold, these which thine eyes are upon shall perish in the floods; and behold, I will shut them up; a prison have I prepared for them.” (Moses 7:36-38)
“For behold, they rejected all the words of Ether; for he truly told them of all things, from the beginning of man; and that after the waters had receded from off the face of this land it became a choice land above all other lands, a chosen land of the Lord; wherefore the Lord would have that all men should serve him who dwell upon the face thereof;” (Ether 13:2)
“Which Jared came forth with his brother and their families, with some others and their families, from the great tower, at the time the Lord confounded the language of the people, and swore in his wrath that they should be scattered upon all the face of the earth; and according to the word of the Lord the people were scattered.” (Ether 1:33)
Ronald P. Millett, “Moroni Reveals a God of Miracles,” Meridian Magazine, March 27, 2013.
“There are many people, even many latter-day saints, who cannot bring themselves to believe in the Great Flood as a literal worldwide event. Where did the waters come from? Where did they go? How did God put all’ of the variety of animals that were needed into the ark? How did the slow moving tortoises get to the ark or get back out to outlying areas of the globe? These kinds of questions have led to the loss or decrease of faith for many people including Albert Einstein.
“But if we believe through the power of the Holy Ghost that Joseph Smith is a true prophet and the Book of Mormon is the “most correct book on earth,” how can we not believe in Moroni’s inspired abridgment of Ether’s words that supports a world-wide flood. A local flood, no matter how big, just doesn’t make sense if we believe the scriptures. And with Joseph Smith and living prophets as guides as to when a scripture is figurative or literal, we can avoid the mistake of declaring a true miracle as only figurative.”
See also: Donald W. Parry, “The Flood and the Tower of Babel,” Ensign, January 1998.
“There is [another] group of people-those who accept the literal message of the Bible regarding Noah, the ark, and the Deluge. Latter-day Saints belong to this group. In spite of the world’s arguments against the historicity of the Flood, and despite the supposed lack of geologic evidence, we Latter-day Saints believe that Noah was an actual man, a prophet of God, who preached repentance and raised a voice of warning, built an ark, gathered his family and a host of animals onto the ark, and floated safely away as waters covered the entire earth. We are assured that these events actually occurred by the multiple testimonies of God’s prophets.”
“For some in the modern world, the historicity of the tower of Babel story, as with the Flood, is often discounted. One modern school of thought considers the account to be nothing more than an “artful parable” and an “old tale.” But Latter-day Saints accept the story as it is presented in Genesis. Further, we have the second witness of the Book of Mormon.
The title page of the Book of Mormon explains that the book of Ether ‘is a record of the people of Jared, who were scattered at the time the Lord confounded the language of the people, when they were building a tower to get to heaven.’ The book of Ether itself then tells of when Jared came forth with his brother and their families, with some others and their families, from the great tower, at the time the Lord confounded the language of the people, and swore in his wrath that they should be scattered upon all the face of the earth’ (Ether 1:33).”

“Space is vast, but it may not be so lonely after all: A study finds the Milky Way is teeming with billions of planets that are about the size of Earth, orbit stars just like our sun, and exist in the Goldilocks zone — not too hot and not too cold for life. Astronomers using NASA data have calculated for the first time that in our galaxy alone, there are at least 8.8 billion stars with Earth-size planets in the habitable temperature zone.”
