BUENA VISTA, Virginia — Southern Virginia University will award the Honorable Mr. Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani with an honorary doctorate for his efforts to promote constitutionalism and the rule of law in Pakistan, as well as increased understanding among people of all faiths and backgrounds.
Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani of the Supreme Court of Pakistan holds an M.A in political science and an LL.B in Constitutional Law from the University of London. He started his practice in the Multan District Courts in 1974 before becoming an advocate for the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1983. In 1990, he met with the U.S. Justice Department and represented the Pakistani Supreme Court at the SAARC Technical Committee on the Prevention of Drug Trafficking. He then took oath as a judge for the Lahore High Court in 1994 and is now the senior member of the division bench.
The ceremony takes place on Friday, October 12, 2007, at 11 a.m., at Southern Virginia University’s Stoddard Activity Center, which is located at One University Hill Drive, Buena Vista, Virginia.
