SALT LAKE CITY — In the upcoming weeks, the Family History Library is offering three new series of classes to help with your family history research. They are Capturing Your Family History, FamilySearch Indexing, and a research series on LDS resouces. All the classes are free.
Capturing Your Family History
Have you ever wanted to compile a family history but just didn’t know where to begin? Now is your chance to learn. In the upcoming weeks the Family History Library is offering classes in capturing and publishing family history.
A series of classes on Capturing Your Family History will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2008, and will cover the following topics: “Capturing Oral Histories,” “Writing Your Personal History,” “Creating a Family Website,” and “Organizing a Family Reunion.” The classes run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Then on Saturday, September 20, 2008, there will be classes on Publishing Your Family History. These will include: “Preparing Your Family History,” “Printing a Book Using the Personal Ancestral File Genealogy Software,” and “Getting Your History Ready for Publication.”
The classes run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
FamilySearch Indexing
FamilySearch Indexing is an exciting and easy-to-use online program for indexing genealogical records and making them available to the public at no charge. Anyone with a computer and access to the Internet can index records.
The Family History Library offers classes on how to do indexing. The next class will be taught on Saturday, September 6, 2008, at 12:00 noon. It will be followed at 2:00 p.m. by a Question & Answer session for FamilySearch Indexing arbitrators and administrators. Both the hands-on class and the Q & A session will be held in the main floor computer lab of the library. In addition, the “How to Do Indexing” class will be repeated on Friday, September 26th at 10:00 a.m. in the computer lab.
Research Series on LDS Research
On Saturday, September 27, 2008, the Family History Library is offering classes in LDS ancestral research. The topics include: “Introduction to Temple Records ,” “Sources on the Internet,” “Finding Aids,” “Membership Records,” and “The Colonies in Mexico and Canada .”
Classes run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
