PALMYRA, New York — The Palmyra New York Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is sponsoring a two-day Conference on the Prophet Joseph Smith, November 4th and 5th.  The conference will be held at the Palmyra Stake Center [2801 Temple Road in Palmyra, New York] and will begin with a Friday evening multi-media presentation by Scot and Maurine Proctor entitled, “Witness of the Light”.

This presentation features photographic images of places where Joseph Smith lived beginning in Sharon, VT, and continuing all the way to the martyrdom at Carthage, IL. 

On Saturday, Nov. 5th there will be seven presentations on Joseph Smith from various speakers.  Richard Turley, Managing Director of the Family and Church History Department, will be the first speaker.  Joseph McConkie and Jerry Perkins will follow, both of whom are religion professors at Brigham Young University. 

There will be four presenters Saturday afternoon.  Sheri Dew, President and CEO of Deseret Book Company will speak, followed by Larry Porter, a professor emeritus from BYU.  Claudia Bushman, historian and author, will speak followed by her husband, Richard Bushman, Professor emeritus from Columbia University and noted author.  Richard Bushman has recently written an authoritative biography of Joseph Smith.
