Christmas just passed—one of the most beautiful holidays we have. Perhaps this Family Home Evening lesson will help continue that spirit of peace throughout the coming year. Time for some FHE Fun!

Opening Song.  #10 Come Sing to the Lord

Opening Prayer.  By invitation.

Time to Celebrate. What happy moments were there this past week in your loved ones’ lives? Take just a moment to celebrate the successes in life. This is how your children will see they do have the strength to face challenges.

Emergency Prep Minute. Just a little bit of weekly preparation can empower your children as they grow. What emergency tip do you want to share with your family this week? Here’s a fun book you could work through: What Would You Do? A Kid’s Guide to Tricky and Sticky Situations.

Favorite Scripture Time. Letting the kids share favorite scriptures is one way to encourage daily scripture study.

Activity. Here is a suggested activity…but do feel free to select what you feel is most suited to your family’s needs this week.

Items Needed:

Share with each person how valued they are in the eyes of God. Pass out a copy of “The Family: A Proclamation to the World.

Take turns reading it out loud, inviting each person to underline any words or phrases that catch his or her eye. After everyone has a chance to share what they noticed, then invite the family quietly to go back and look for blessings God desires that each new baby experience after arriving in a home. Use a different crayon color to highlight those.

You may want to testify as to your children’s divine privileges as children of God, to let them know the Lord has placed everything they need for safe living while on earth. We simply need follow the teachings of the prophets to be safe here and also to be led safely home there to His presence.

Closing Song.  #327  Go, Ye Messengers of Heaven

Closing Prayer.  By invitation.

Refreshments. Sharing refreshments together can be a gentle bonding experience as people chat-n-chow. Here is an “Extra Easy Fudge” recipe for you to try!

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES: The original text of President Hinckley’s prophetic discourse (when he first read “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”) is stunning in its simplicity and yet its profound counsel to parents. Not only does it have the text to “The Family” proclamation, but it has additional easy ideas for successful parenting. It is a terrific must-read!
