The Kansas City Missouri Temple open house and tours will open to the public on Saturday, 7 April. The open house will continue through 28 April. The Temple will be formally dedicated on Sunday, 6 May 2012, in three sessions by President Thomas S. Monson. The dedicatory sessions will be broadcast to congregations of the Church within the temple district.

The Kansas City Temple was announced by the First Presidency of the Church October 4, 2008. Construction began with a formal groundbreaking on 8 May 2010. It will be the 137th operating temple of the Church. It is the second temple in Missouri, and the 67th in the United States. The temple will serve some 45,000 Latter-day Saints in 126 congregations throughout Kansas, Missouri and small portions of Oklahoma and Arkansas.

The demand for tickets to the open house was so heavy that the public dates were extended one week to April 28. “We have close to 80,000 people who have requested tours and we expect nearly 100,000 visitors by the time the tour ends on April 28,” said Elder William R. Walker, executive director of the Temple Department.

Tours for special guests began Thursday, April 5, and will continue through Saturday morning, April 7. The general public will begin attending the open house at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7. Thereafter, open house tours will begin at 9 a.m., Monday, April 9, through Saturday, April 28, excluding Sundays.
