I remember when members were counseled by the prophet to have Mothers not work outside the home. Those in my Elders Quorum at the time used up the whole hour of our priesthood meeting debating as to why that counsel did not apply to them. I find it amazing to see again, people doubting and/or try to find alternative solutions to what the Lord has counseled. I am no longer a Mormon. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. So let it be written...so let it be done. Let the word "Mormon" be stricken from all the..... ;) I'd rather have the task of working on the usage of the word "Mormon" in my vocabulary as apposed to fleeing my home in the middle of winter due to persecution. Pioneer Latter Day Saints have had to endure much more than what we are asked to do. Let us be faithful and show the Lord that our hearts are turned to Him and not say, "This is a hard thing." "Do it."

Can you imagine the impact if the Choir were to become known as "The Choir of the Church of Jesus Christ"?

David D.August 23, 2018

While I have no problem including "Jesus Christ" in the name of the Church, I'm uncomfortable referring to myself as a "Saint" in common speaking with or writing to all the non-Saints in the world.

The term "Mormon" solved a practical communications problem -- identifying the Church in 2 syllables rather than 11. Do you think people are really going to want to say The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Tabernacle Choir? So, should we also change our primary scriptures to the Book of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints?

I would think there would be some discussion about the Saviour wanting the correct name to be applied for a reason and not just speculation about the "Church and our personal wishes just because it is convenient. The Prophet ( and by implication the Saviour) has asked us to go another step forward ( and lets face it, its not overnight direction change). We need not strain at Gnat while everyone thinks it is a camel. I believe when he comes to his Kingdom the correct name should be known in all corners of the Galaxy. Lets just smile and use the mouthful and help testify of our Saviour by calling "His" Church by His name.

It will take some time for this change to have the desired effect but time has a way of changing behavior. If the church is serious, then it has to be a top down effort by removing any of the un-desired language from websites and other church branded entities. Eventually the rising generation will get used to the "counseled" way of calling ourselves. Time will tell I guess if it sticks this time.

Viola, I like it -- good shorthand.

How will the Mormon Tabernacle Choir now be addressed?

ViolaAugust 17, 2018

I don’t know if this shortened name would be acceptable, but I thought of “The Church of Jesus Christ-LDS.” Do you think that would work? It differentiates the church from other Church of Christ denominations while still using a recognizable abbreviation.
