What a tender story of a valiant and persistent woman. Ann inspires me. Thank you for introducing Ann in such a lovely article. I hope I get to meet her in person someday. I, too, have Italian ancestors, and dream of going to research in Sicily where my grandparents were born. I reached out last night on Facebook to someone I hope is a cousin in Santo Stefano di Camastra. Thank you, Carol. You inspire me with your tireless enthusiasm.

GREAT article! My Father is from the Lucca area. I JUST sent an email to Sister Barsi but it was returned. Is there any way to contact her and give her MY email, or to send me her CURRENT email address? Hope so! I'm thinking I could REALLY use her help. Thank you.

Thank you all for the kind words - connecting you to your famiies makes my day! Celio, Professor Nicoli's family is not originally from Pieve di Controne. Do you have someone specific I should ask him about when I see him next? Ann

Ann is an amazing lady. I had been having problems researching my ancestors in Italy and had all but given up in June 2011, but then got a message from Ann via Ancestry in 2012. I am so grateful to her for the huge amount of research she has done & all the information she has given me

Besides having 4 children, 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, I can't remember being more excited than the moment I met Ann Barsi. She is my hero, a beautiful woman, inside and out. She made it possible for everyone from this Little town in Lucca to truly experience their heritage. What a wonderful gift I am able to leave my family. I will be forever grateful. THANK YOU ANN !!!!

What a wonderful story and adventure for Ann! Although my roots don't go in that direction, it would be a wonderful adventure to run across such a magnitude of records. Makes me want to start indexing more. Thanks for sharing this story.
