Around 320 BC, Alexander the Great ruled the known world. He no doubt came on a war horse. What a contrast to when our Lord and savior Jesus Christ came as the very Messiah, Prince of Peace on the back of a humble donkey. Later and poignantly, Handel composed (in Judas Maccabaeus): "See the Conquering Hero Comes." What an incredibly beautiful work- so fitting! Finally in modern times on December 11th, 1917 was British General Edmund Allenby. It is written that “Before entering Jerusalem, Allenby dismounted from his horse and walked in because he said that only the Messiah should ride in triumphant in the final liberation and redemption of Jerusalem.” He added, “I come not as a conqueror but as a pilgrim.” Allenby had just seized Jerusalem from the Turks of the Ottoman Empire. For the events that followed soon after, some miraculous, was set history for the fulfillment of Elder Orson Hyde's prayer of dedication on the Mount of Olives, for the return of Judah to it's Promised Land, which eventually will lead to our Savior’s glorious Second Coming!

Rynna, Thank you for your beautiful message. At last, here in the wee hours, I was able to read your article. The symbolism is beautiful...and all makes perfect sense. I needed this message tonight. It has strengthened me on a difficult evening. As always, your writing is superb...and the depth of your content is much appreciated. I hope you have a wonderful Easter.

This is such a wonderful article. I've read this account of Jesus entering Jerusalem my whole life and never realized there was so much more to it. Guess that's the difference between reading the scriptures and studying the scriptures. Thank you for your time and effort to write this and share it.

Thanks Rynna for sharing this beautiful accounting of symbolism. Our Lord was scripture and prophecy incarnate - a beautiful telling that I have felt compelled to share with many.

What is Daniel's prophecy of 173,880 days?

Amazing article! We've been acting out Palm Sunday in our family for years and never really understood any of it. Knew the donkey was for a king but that's about it. Thank you for enlightening us with all of these important facts. I will never feel the same about Palm Sunday. I'm excited to tell the kids the meaning of everything. What an incredible happening!

Is this not also a fulfillment of Daniel's prophecy, the 173,880 days?

What a wonderful look at the undeniable symbolism surrounding the Savior's entry into Jerusalem before His crucifixion. During this time of year, it is important to reflect and ponder on Christ's life, teachings, example and death. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of this blessed occasion.
