Terry, good to hear from you! Craig, looks like I made a mistake in the footnote xxxvii. It should reference the following: Bednar, David A. "Faithful parents and wayward children: Sustaining hope while overcoming misunderstanding." Ensign 44, March 2014, 28-33. Theodore, thanks for your comment illustrating why the picture of transmission of revelation is complicated even for modern scripture!

The original record of the Creation, the Fall, and some events of succeeding generations down to Noah was written by Adam and his righteous descendants in the original Book of Remembrance (Moses 6:5). This was partially restored to Moses by direct revelation and written by his own hand (Moses 1:40). There would have been a parallel account in the Brass Plates, which are traced back to Joseph in Egypt who as the first born of Israel would have been the keeper of the records of his fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Many copies of these records would have been made down through the following generations from which the writers of the Septuagint would have used as sources. It is a miracle that through the centuries it remained as intact as it did. That the record did remain intact sufficient for the purposes of the Lord for a time is born out by Moroni. When he began to translate the Plates of Ether, which also contained the record of the Creation down through Noah to the Tower of Babel, he stated that he did not translate this portion of the record because it was “had among the Jews.” (Ether 1:1-4) However, the Lord told Moses that because many words would be taken from the book to be written by Moses they would be restored by someone like Moses (Moses 1:41), who was Joseph Smith.

For my review of Bokovoy’s book in the Interpeter journal, pointing out what I see of its strengths and weaknesses, see https://www.mormoninterpreter.com/sorting-out-the-sources-in-scripture/
