The interesting thing is that every reason put forward for wearing Hajib applies equally to men. So why don't the men wear an obvious and distinctive garb to encourage their virtuous behavior and to avoid unwanted advances from women?

Thank you for this very thoughtful explanation of Hijab. I found encouragement for my own life from the faith of those whose stories you included. Isn't it interesting when we seek to understand the hearts of those of another faith that we tend to find more commonality than divergence, even in the most unfamiliar practices? I will not look at a woman practicing Hijab with as much curiosity in the future, but likely with more respect.

I appreciate their candor and commitment but to me this practice places the burden of sin on the woman. They have to cover up so men won't have lustful thoughts. Why should the woman need to go to such extremes? My thoughts are my responsibility. And to me when the woman's husband says "don't you think you should cover up now?" speaks volumes of where men and women rank in this culture. I'm grateful that my wife walks beside me as my equal.
