Start with Section 7 of the Doctrine and Covenants. Also the following is from a Doctrine and Covenants Student manual 2002 where John 21:20-23 is discussed and whether or not John died. "Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery finally solved the issue through an appeal to the Lord. The Prophet Joseph Smith recorded:
