When I was in college I took a History of Civilization class. The textbook for the course discussed the Hammurabi Code and identified a man named Zenos, a reformer, who called upon the people to adhere to the code. That would pre-date the time of Christ, and although Zenos was not identified as a religious leader, it seems to me there could be a connection.
