I found some source material on Christ's birthplace that provides some documentation for Kirkland's article. Just scroll through all the advertisements etc following the article "Was Jesus Born Away..." to the comments section. https://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithwalkers/2012/12/was-jesus-born-away-in-a-manger-at-migdal-eder/

Thank you that explains a lot. A very fitting and logical explanation, especially if you also look at it with the Hebrew way of thinking. (google it) There is a certain order of things that shows the hand of a great organizer, God himself.

I loved this article, but I must confess that I feel a tinge of skepticism whenever I read material like this. I would love to have some documentation of the sources used for this information, as well as some information about the credentials of the author. It's a fascinating story we have here and I have heard it from one other source but again, without documentation.

Thank you for the fascinating explanation of the sheep and royal shepherds. If this hypothesis is true, we need to update our nativity scenes! What a beautiful message to hear at this sacred time of year.

WoW!! It was like a lightbulb went off in my head. It makes sooooooooo much sense. Thanks for the enlightenment. I can't wait to share it with my family. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Thank you for this information. Tradition has several assumptions that are not accurate, among them the visit of the wise men (were there really 3 wise men or did they present 3 gifts?) that appeared along side the animals and next to the shepherds at the same time. A good source to read regarding that is "Jesus the Christ" by Elder James Talmage. The scriptures in Luke Chapter 2 have been embellished greatly regarding these facts and the actual birth of the Lord into mortality.
