I have always loved the Shabbat observance shown in the movie Fiddler on the Roof, and wished to incorporate that same reverence in my own Sabbath observance. I have a long way to go, so our current LDS emphasis on better Sabbath habits is helping me tremendously. Thanks for an inspiring article.

What beautiful inspiring words! My father and all of his family are Jewish, so I have a special love for the Jewish people. Their love for their families and their love for the Sabbath are my favorite parts. Sunday is my favorite day of the week. This article will help make it more of a delight to me and my family. Thank you!

This goes along well with Truman G. Madsen's "The Gospel and the Sabbath". (You can find the audio at Deseret Book.) He shares his experience with living among the Jews in Israel and what he learned as they shared Shabbat with him.

I love this! Thank you for these great ideas. I'm excited to have some new perspectives on the Sabbath. I love the idea of turning off electronic devices (although electronics are necessary for doing family history research). I love the emphasis on family, and on blessing and expressing appreciation for children. One difference I am noting between the Jewish observance of the Sabbath and the Christian observance (if we are following Jesus Christ's example) is that we may be more focused on serving others, rather than in separating ourselves from others. Between the two, we should never be bored on the Sabbath Day--it should be a delight! Thank you!

What a wonderfully timely article as I prepare to teach the RS lesson on Sabbath worship. Having participated in Shabbat services in a Torah observant family, it brought back lovely memories of the tender feelings spoken of in this article. I especially liked the family's commitment to being device free during this sacred family time!

Thanks for sharing these wonderful worship practices from our Jewish brothers and sisters on making the Sabbath a delight. I appreciated hearing how meaningful the Sabbath is to them and gives me a greater desire to enjoy these blessings too.
