My husband and I taught English in China in Jianan for two years and had the best time seeing the country and eating their delicious food. The Chinese people are friendly and love Americans. We only regret that we are now too old to be a part of the China Teachers Program sponsored by BYU. We taught there in 2006-2007 and 2008-2009 some of the best years of our lives. China is a beautiful country and has wonderful kind people. We miss China and its people to this day!

Thanks, Jeff. Well-said. Sounds like the Deseret News writer needs to get out of Utah more often to appreciate how great the rest of the world is!

Mr. Lindsey, I too, agree the DN article was negative, pessimistic, and on the whole downright bad. I'm not a BYU person, but I admire Jimmer's talents and abilities. He is doing wonderful work over there that no one else can do and thank you for writing this very informational article. When I read Mr. Hyde's article, I didn't want to finish reading it because it was such a downer. Again, thank you for "giving us the other side" of Jimmer's story. It truly needed to be said in defense of the tone of Mr. Hyde's article.

Thanks for setting the Deseret article straight. Another great read for those interested in an American's take on living in China is Postcards From Tomorrow Square by James Fallows of The Atlantic.
