The Lord didn't tell Adam that Noah needed to build an Ark, likewise the counsel of Living Prophets Today is the Most Pertinent to us. Brigham Young was directly quoted by Wilford Woodruff: "Brother Brigham took the stand, and he took the Bible, and laid it down; he took the Book of Mormon, and laid it down; and he took the Book of Doctrine and Covenants, and laid it down before him, and he said:

We don't have to go back to Brigham Young's day to learn how wrong mainstream medicine has been. Merthiolate and Mercurochrome were compounds of mercury. Great for killing germs but extremely toxic to the body. Paregoric was great for calming fussy babies because it contained Opium. The original Coca Cola contained Cocaine that was addictive for obvious reasons. If your old enough to remember, "More doctors smoke Camels than any other brand because they are gentle on the T Zone." Most recently: For fifty years we were told to use margarine, shortening, and hydrogenated vegetable oils instead of saturated fat to prevent heart disease. Now the Harvard Medical and the New England Journal of Medicine fells us that such 'Trans Fats" cause between 73,000 to 221,000 heart attacks and strokes each year.

I don't usually comment about any articles or opinions, but have chosen to do so. I live a very healthy lifestyle, which unlike many church members, includes exercising regularly and avoiding meat and dairy products generally. Often we can try to justify our own dogma, or business/finances by giving incomplete information. I am actually a direct descendant of Brigham Young and love him and his ways dearly. My family eats largely "raw" for health reasons. I also happen to be a practicing M.D. and am sure that if Brigham Young were alive today, in the world of modern medicine, when the life ecpectancy is far longer than it was in his day; that he would, like all other modern prophets welcome "Western, modern" medicine, and doctors. He was a brilliant man, and would not harp on 150 year old comments at this time. Please consider modern prophets words and experiences who live in this modern time with modern medicine. Again, I don't discount herbs and nutrition; and think that much of modern sickness could be prevented with proper eating.

Thank you very much for this series! This last article again confirmed my own experiences. Although I am in Italy and cannot even obtain some of the herbs mentioned in the miracle tea contents, I am blessed with a good herbalist in our town, who helps me with her vast knowledge of our local herbs, as well as blessings given and received in faith.
